The AbClose™ Port Site Closure Device was featured in a clinical poster by Kirby Tran, MD, MMM at the virtual ACS Clinical Congress 2020. The title of Dr. Tran's poster is "User Preference Study of a Novel Device for Laparoscopic Port Site Wound Closure." We invite you to review it to learn how port site closure device can fulfill an unmet need in abdominal laparoscopy.

The AbClose Port Site Fascia Closure Device was featured in OR Today Magazine! Dr. Kirby Tran M.D., M.M.M. wrote: "I have been using a new closure device called AbClose that enables me to close wounds very effectively and consistently without any assistance, regardless of the location or the abdominal wall thickness. With my previous, commonly used suture passer, port site closure took about 2-10 minutes, compared to just 1-2 minutes with AbClose." We invite you to read the full piece:
Article: Making Laparoscopic Surgery Safer
Dieter Bruno, MD, FACS wrote an article titled “Making Laparoscopic Surgery Safer” in the January 2020 issue of Today’s Geriatric Medicine in which he explains how wound closure devices (like AbClose™ Port Site Closure Device) help guard against the challenges faced by geriatric patients. Dr. Bruno discusses wound closure challenges in geriatric patients, potential complications, wound closure options, and how to reduce the risks whenever possible. “By ensuring that wound closure in geriatric patients is consistently free from complications, surgeons can avert problems that may lead to additional surgery… For all patients with impaired wound healing, it’s important to have a robust closure mechanism for the laparoscopic port site... Laparoscopic closure devices are changing the risk for port-site hernia and other wound healing complications… When surgeons use an effective closure device without error, the fascia is closed tightly and hernia is avoided. With older adult patients, avoiding complications and a potential second surgery, this is a welcome approach.”
Article: The Search for Consistent Abdominal Port-Site Closure
AbClose was mentioned in an article published in SLS MIS Today by Dieter Bruno, MD, FACS of Peninsula Urology Center in Redwood City, California. In this article Dr. Bruno discusses how today’s options make challenging cases easier and reduce the risk of hernia and says “Another option called AbClose (Medeon Biodesign) standardizes how we suture and close the fascia by mechanizing the toughest aspects of port-site closure. A single surgeon or less experienced resident can safely and reliably close the fascia each time, regardless of the patient’s weight or other challenges.”
